Goodbye

After almost 7 years we are saying goodbye to Nido Marketing – Nido, you have done us all proud!

It was a very tough decision to make and somewhat earlier than planned but we feel the time is now right for Tim and I to concentrate on our new services and pass the telemarketing on to our team, some of whom are setting up their own business.

As of now, Tim and I will be offering our Sales and Marketing Audits, board level sales support and our sales and client retention workshops.

Our ongoing telemarketing clients have now recruited members of our team and any new telemarketing needs will be handled by ex-Nido people Frank and Leo who are setting up a new company and who some of you know already.

So – why have we made this decision you ask….

Well, over the last few months it became apparent that our telemarketing service was simply not profitable enough and we needed to get away from our fixed daily rate model.

Yes I am sure the recession had something to do with the drop in profitability but it still forced us to look at what we were doing and our conclusion was to innovate!!

New services were designed and tested and we started selling them.  Tim and I really enjoyed developing and delivering these new services but the telemarketing was still the majority of our business.  The team were still strong and put extra effort in but it was tough.

Then, we were put into a position by our landlords that forced us to stop everything and really decide what we wanted to do….

To cut a (very) long story short – two weeks ago, the whole Nido team cleared out the Nido office in the middle of the night and decamped to our house.  It looked like some sort of A-team / Spooks set up on the ground floor with PC’s, cables and people everywhere.  Within an hour we had 3 offers of temporary space but Tim and I weren’t sure… could this actually be the time to call it quits with Nido and move on?

Well, the next day (Wednesday) was our Nido Sales and Marketing Network so it was all hands on deck to make this a success – and it was!!  Our best one yet.  The whole team rallied around and who would have known we had all been up until 2am moving office the night before.

Thursday and Friday the team worked from our house and remotely from their homes and Nido carried on… but Tim and I were still not sure this was right…

A weekend in the New Forest helped us get a bit of time out to think what we really wanted to do.  We have both lost close family members in the last few months and this probably also contributed to our refocusing on what was important to us.

Ultimately we wanted to get excited about work again and concentrate on the things that really interested us.

Our biggest worry was our team who have always been fantastic and stayed loyal through thick and thin.  We didn’t want to let them down but we also knew that they had gained some great skills and experience working at Nido and would go on to bigger and better things.  This is already happening.

So there you go, the last days of Nido, pretty eventful but we feel we have gone out on a high AND most importantly the entire Nido team are still on great terms and it even looks like we will be passing work to each other – hurrah!!

Thank you to everybody who has been so fantastic over the years.  We have met some truly inspirational people on the journey and made some good friends too.

We see this as the beginning of a new chapter for all us Nido people and we think it’s going to be great.

Tim and I are taking it easy over the next 2 months, continuing to develop our offering and services and are currently trying to come up with a new company name – any ideas??  This will be officially launched in the New Year.

We will be out and about in the meantime so I am sure you will catch up with us soon.

There will be a proper Nido send off in the next couple of weeks and you will all be most welcome to join us.

That’s all folks – I thank you, and goodnight!

Our decision to engage Nido to help with the tricky area of cold-calling was something of an experiment for us. From the outset, we were impressed at how quickly the Nido team absorbed information about our company and quickly understood the very specialized services we were selling. Judging by the results so far, the experiment is working. Within the first two weeks Nido managed to get us two appointments, and others have followed since then. They have tenaciously following up potential leads and have become an integral part of our sales team. For us the main benefit is having the cold-calling taken off our hands, allowing us to concentrate on the more length process of follow-up.
